CGI ME (Meditation Experiences)

The rapid rise of remote work has led to more isolated and burnt-out workers than ever before. This project aimed to enhance their well-being by encouraging breaks and incorporating meditation into the daily lives of corporate employees.

We did this by creating a concept, pitch, and demo for a virtual reality based meditation app called CGI ME. The app guides users through VR meditation sessions and seamlessly integrates into their existing work calendars.

Modern Problems, Modern Solutions

CGI issued a challenge for their UX teams - design a product or service that utilizes virtual reality to solve any problem of their choosing. Our team felt strongly about encouraging remote workers to take better care of their mental and physical health, and immediately set about devising an innovative solution.

While remote work does have undeniable benefits, it’s also created a workforce that is increasingly isolated, susceptible to burnout, and without the natural social atmosphere of an office environment, not motivated to take the time to take a break and recharge in the middle of the workday.

CGI Meditation Experiences (CGI ME) uses Virtual Reality to guide users through meditation sessions and breathing exercises from the comfort of their own homes. To promote regular usage, it integrates seamlessly into the daily lives of corporate employees through their work calendars.

My role

My expertise as a UX Content Designer and my background in marketing allowed me to help shape the concept, create compelling content, and effectively present our vision. Here’s an overview of my key contributions:

  • Helped conceptualize the idea for a VR-based guided meditation app.

  • Crafted engaging and user-centric content for wireframes and presentation materials.

  • Collaborated in organizing and designing the pitch presentation, delivering a captivating narrative.

  • Recorded and edited a guided meditation demo, synchronizing audio with the VR visuals.

  • Presented our pitch before judges, directors, and competitors, effectively conveying the value of CGI ME.

Research & Insights

A 2022 employee wellness survey from Wellable Labs found that 90% of employers, including industry leaders such as Johnson & Johnson, Deloitte, and Phillips, are increasing their investment in mental health programs. Among these programs, 71% focus on mindfulness and meditation, and 72% are predominantly or entirely virtual. To gather more data to inform our project, we conducted an internal survey among employees.

Taking these findings into account, we decided to include a calendar integration feature in CGI ME, allowing the app to sync with users' work calendars and find free moments to schedule meditations. By utilizing these moments, employees would be able to recharge and feel invigorated, leading to increased productivity and overall well-being for the remainder of the day.

Selling the Product

While various third-party corporate wellness services already exist, none of them incorporate VR or offer a calendar integration function.

Recognizing this gap in the market, we realized that these third-party companies would be highly interested in acquiring CGI ME as an add-on to their existing services. By providing a VR-based meditation solution with direct calendar integration, we could expand our potential user base and establish CGI ME as an essential component of any corporate wellness program.

To provide a further incentive for the CGI directors, we connected it to the current health and wellness program that the company already had in place - Oxygen. Oxygen is an internal service that offers various health guides and member assistance programs, much like a lot of the third-party wellness programs that were already being utilized by other companies. CGI was interested in selling Oxygen as a wellness service to other corporations, so to create further interest, we proposed CGI ME as a service that could be sold as a solo product, as an add-on to other third-party health services, or as a bundle, including Oxygen and ME.

Results & Deliverables

The pitch presentation went exceptionally well, with our team coming in first place as voted on by the competition judges, the company directors, and our peers. Below, you can view the lo-fi wireframes we created to demonstrate the experience of two potential users, as well as a product demonstration video.

Notification user journey:

The user syncs CGI ME with their work calendar. To. achieve its goal of promoting physical and mental wellness in the workplace, the app will parse their calendar for free periods during their work day and recommend times to take a break. This flow begins when the user receives a notification letting them know they have a free slot in their work schedule, and they can then schedule a meditation during that time.

Here is an example of what a CGI ME user may experience while they are engaged in a meditation session.

In-App user journey

If the user opens the CGI ME app on their own, they’ll see their dashboard on the home screen. To schedule a meditation, they can navigate to the Meditate section in the home row options where they can select the type, time, and date of the meditation session.
